Snow & Dam Prevention
Several signs may indicate ice dams
1. Icicles along the roof’s edge or behind the gutter
2. Ice builds up on top of gutters or the lower edge of the roof.
3. Ice emanating from your soffit vents or through the soffit itself
4. Visible ice or water on your home’s siding
5. Water or ice inside or around a window frame.
It is essential to recognize an ice dam on your home or business and then monitor the spaces directly under your roof for signs of water intrusion.
'Every winter, we get damage to our roofs. How do we prevent that from happening?'
When snow and ice dams build up, they regularly cause damage to roofs and fascia. When a high-quality heat cable is used and professionally installed, it can provide a decade of reliable ice dam prevention. However, there are circumstances when heat cables are the only realistic option for ice dam prevention.
What are ice dams?
When the snow melts, it runs down a roof’s surface and condenses into an ice dam. Warm attic air that heats a roof’s underside causes the snow to melt. Snowmelt can also be influenced by changing temperatures.
The deck above the eaves, which is not exposed to heat from the attic, is eventually in contact with the melted snow as it travels down the roof. As a result, the ice typically starts to build here.
The water re-freezes, ice accumulates, and prevents future run-off, forming a “dam.” Some of the collected water eventually makes its way underneath the shingles, which are designed to shed water, not collect it. After that, it thaws and lifts.

Save Money
Installing heat cables helps prevent your gutters from freezing over, breaking off, and damaging your roof. The heat wires melt the snow and ice, allowing water to flow into clean gutters as intended. Without a proper channel, the water will back up and leak into your house, leading to more damage and money.
Safety
If ice dams build up, ice cycles can form and cause damage to your roof and gutters or even cause injury to someone.
Health
Ice dams can cause damage to your roof, and water will find its way into your house. As the moisture increases, a breeding ground for mold will be created, which can lead to various health issues for you and your family.
